Flying to Ireland

Day 2: Dublin
Arrive in Dublin and kick off the day by touring the capital of Ireland with a local guide. This historical port city has many stories imbedded in the Georgian-style buildings and landmarks. Stop at Oscar Wilde’s prestigious Trinity College, home of the famous 1,200-year-old Book of Kells, see Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, and learn about the civil war that led to a free Irish state from Great Britain in 1923. We’ll end our evening a little early, as some may be jet-lagged from the journey.

Clarion Liffey Hotel, Dublin

Day 3: Clonmacnoise
Begin the day with an included authentic Irish breakfast then travel inland toward the Clonmacoise, St. Ciaran’s monastery. Founded in 546 and situated on River Shannon, this preserved religious landmark has 9 church ruins and round tower on it. It is a beautiful example of Irish history and countryside. Enjoy an included lunch at Connolly’s Rathbaun Farm – which still functions as a sheep farm and bake shop. Evening ends by checking into our hotel in Galway, we stay here for the next 2 nights.

Radisson Blu Hotel,  Galway

Day 4: Connemara
Traveling through the Connemara region experience mountainous coastlines, beautiful rivers and untouched lakes. Kylemore Abby is our next destination, which is an Irish Benedictine Abbey that has been home to nuns for almost a century. After lunch continue to Moycullen and visit the Connemara Celtic Crystal Factory, a favorite stop for those interested in Irish jewelry. Beautiful Galway Bay and charming villages lead us back to our lodging in Galway again tonight.

Day 5: Cliffs of Moher
Begin the day with the incredible scenery of the rugged Burren in County Clare. This landscape resembles the moon more than Ireland, but is incredible nonetheless. Shortly after the Burren arrive to the Cliffs of Moher rising almost 700 feet up from the Atlantic Ocean. After lunch, we step back in time and visit to the thatched roof village of Adare. Then it’s into Killarney, one of the most beautiful towns in Ireland and where we’ll reside for the next 3 nights.

Eviston House Hotel, Killarney

Day 6: Killarney
Tour the countryside of Killarney National Park on a horse-drawn cart, better known as a ‘jaunting cart.’ We’ll also enjoy a cruise on the largest of the lakes in the park, Lough Leane. If you are interested in a full day (and bit more strenuous) experience, opt to take the Gap of Dunloe Tour; this gets you right in the thick of Ireland’s largest mountain range, the McGillycuddy Reeks, by jaunting cart and boat. We enjoy some traditional Irish folk music tonight and a fabulous meal of authentic Irish cuisine.

Eviston House Hotel, Killarney

Day 7: Ring of Kerry
The 100-mile tour of the southwestern tip of Ireland is known for many things, including sparkling coastlines and dynamic mountain stops speckled with colorful old- time, Irish farmhouses. Our tour of the Ring of Kerry will give us an authentic feeling of the true Ireland and will leave us singing and dancing the night away just as the locals do.

Day 8: Blarney Castle
Journey to the town of Blarney, home to Blarney Castle and the famous Blarney Stone. Kiss it and you are promised the ‘Gift of Gab.’ It’s easy to find Waterford Crystal today as we tour one of their production facilities in Waterford. Tonight, make our way up to Kilkenny, just a couple hours outside of Dublin where we’ll spend part of tomorrow.

Kilkenny Hotel, Kilkenny

Day 9: Kilkenny Castle
Kilkenny Castle is our main attraction for the day; this thirteenth century castle functioned as a fortress and is a signature symbol of the medieval city. After touring the castle and having a pub lunch, we will return to the Dublin area to check into our hotel for one last night as we prepare to fly home tomorrow morning. But first, a final included meal with your tour, remembering all the great times that Ireland has offered us the last 9 days.

Day 14: St. Andrews and Perth
We travel north today into the city of Perth. Here we’ll stop in at the Scone Castle to hear about the rulers on the country from Robert the Bruce to MacBeth. We’ll then continue onto the St. Andrews, the origin of golf where in 1754 the rules of golf were made here, marking it a holy ground for fans of the game. After we brush up on our game, travel back to Edinburgh for our last evening together and a dinner to say farewell, as tomorrow we’ll all make our way home.
