From the towering skyline of Chicago to the iconic Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, each day brings new scenery and memorable experiences. Travel through nine fascinating states as you explore vintage diners, neon-lit motels, historic landmarks, Native American culture, cowboy country, and the dramatic landscapes of the American Southwest.

Today we explore the rich history and stunning architecture of Chicago. Enjoy a guided architectural cruise along the Chicago River as towering skyscrapers and historic landmarks tell the story of this remarkable city. The remainder of the day is free to explore the Magnificent Mile, Millennium Park, Navy Pier, or sample Chicago’s famous deep-dish pizza.

Day 3: Pontiac, Illinois

Today we officially hit the Mother Road! As we travel through the Illinois countryside, Route 66 nostalgia begins to come alive with vintage signs, restored gas stations, and classic roadside attractions. We arrive in Pontiac, a beloved Route 66 town known for its colorful murals, museums, and small-town charm. Continue on to Springfield to visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Settle down into your accommodations just steps from the Old State Capitol State Historic Site.

Day 4: St Louis & the Gateway West

Continue westward along Route 66 into St. Louis — the historic “Gateway to the West.” Along the way, discover charming roadside stops and reminders of the golden age of American road travel. In St. Louis, marvel at the towering Gateway Arch and enjoy time to explore this vibrant Mississippi River city where Route 66 history and American expansion intersect.

Day 5: Journey to Branson
Today’s drive showcases more classic Route 66 scenery as we journey through the rolling Ozark landscapes of Missouri. Vintage motels, retro diners, quirky roadside attractions, and stretches of historic roadway capture the timeless charm of America’s most famous highway. Arrive in lively Branson, known for its entertainment, hospitality, and Ozark Mountain beauty.

Enjoy another wonderful day in Branson as we experience one of the region’s most beloved attractions — the famous Showboat Branson Belle. Cruise across scenic Table Rock Lake aboard this classic paddlewheel-style showboat while enjoying a delicious lunch and lively entertainment featuring music, comedy, and talented performers. Surrounded by the beautiful Ozark landscapes, this relaxing and entertaining experience perfectly captures the warm hospitality and classic Americana spirit found throughout our Route 66 adventure.

Day 7: Through Kansas & Oklahoma City

Today we continue west along historic Route 66, briefly crossing into the small but memorable stretch of the Mother Road in Kansas. Though only a few miles long, Kansas is home to some wonderfully preserved Route 66 landmarks, classic roadside charm, and nostalgic Americana. Continuing into Oklahoma, enjoy scenic stretches of the historic highway dotted with vintage gas stations, retro signage, and reminders of the golden age of American road travel before arriving in Oklahoma City. This evening, visit the fascinating First Americans Museum, where interactive exhibits and powerful storytelling celebrate the history, cultures, and contributions of the First American Nations in Oklahoma.

Day 8: Oklahoma City National Memorial & Amarillo

This morning, visit the moving Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, honoring the victims, survivors, and heroes of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. Take time to reflect at this beautifully designed memorial before continuing westward along historic Route 66 into the wide-open landscapes of the Texas Panhandle. Along the way, enjoy classic roadside Americana, vintage signage, and sweeping prairie views that define this legendary highway.

Upon arriving in Amarillo, we’ll enjoy dinner at the world-famous Big Texan Steak Ranch, a legendary Route 66 landmark known for its Texas-sized steaks, lively atmosphere, and unmistakable cowboy charm. This iconic stop has welcomed Route 66 travelers for generations and perfectly captures the larger-than-life spirit of the American West.

Day 9: Santa Fe

Before departing Amarillo, visit the famous Cadillac Ranch, one of the most iconic roadside attractions along Route 66. This colorful public art installation featuring vintage Cadillacs buried nose-first in the Texas prairie perfectly captures the quirky spirit of the Mother Road.

Continuing west into New Mexico, enjoy classic Route 66 scenery and a stop in the nostalgic town of Tucumcari, known for its vintage neon signs and retro roadside charm. Arrive later in beautiful Santa Fe where adobe architecture, Native American culture, and Southwestern history create one of the most unique destinations along our journey.

Enjoy a full day to explore Santa Fe at your own pace. Browse local art galleries and artisan shops, stroll the historic Santa Fe Plaza, admire centuries-old adobe buildings, or sample authentic Southwestern cuisine. Nestled beneath the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Santa Fe’s rich blend of Native American, Spanish, and Old West culture makes it one of the true highlights of Route 66.

Day 11: Albuquerque, Gallup & Route 66 Trading Posts

This morning, travel south to Albuquerque where classic neon signs, historic adobe architecture, and vibrant Southwestern culture keep the spirit of Route 66 alive. Enjoy time exploring the city’s famous Old Town district before continuing west through the dramatic desert landscapes of New Mexico. Later, arrive in historic Gallup, long known as the “Gateway to Native America.” Along the way, pass vintage motels, roadside attractions, and traditional trading posts featuring Native American jewelry, artwork, and handcrafted goods that reflect the rich cultures of the Southwest.

Day 12: Petrified Forest & Grand Canyon National Park

Today we travel through some of the most spectacular scenery along Route 66 as we enter Arizona. Explore portions of Petrified Forest National Park where ancient fossilized trees and the colorful landscapes of the Painted Desert create a truly unforgettable Southwestern experience. Portions of historic Route 66 still pass through the park, offering a unique glimpse into the history of the Mother Road.

Later, arrive at breathtaking Grand Canyon National Park, one of the natural wonders of the world. Enjoy time at scenic overlooks as you take in the immense beauty, layered rock formations, and dramatic canyon views carved by the Colorado River over millions of years.

Day 13: Grand Canyon Railway to Williams

Enjoy a relaxing free morning at Grand Canyon National Park with time to take in additional canyon views, browse local shops, or simply enjoy the peaceful beauty of this incredible natural wonder.

Later today, board the historic Grand Canyon Railway for a memorable journey through the high desert landscapes of northern Arizona. Originally established in 1901, this classic train ride offers a nostalgic travel experience reminiscent of the golden age of rail travel and Route 66 adventure. Arrive this afternoon in Williams, one of the best-preserved Route 66 towns in America, filled with vintage neon signs, western charm, and classic Americana.

Our final day on the Mother Road takes us across the Mojave Desert and into Southern California. Celebrate your incredible cross-country journey at the Pacific Ocean and snap a photo beside the famous “End of the Trail” Route 66 sign before gathering for a farewell dinner.
